TURPAN, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Boasting abundant historical and natural scenery as well as peculiar folk customs, Turpan in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region enjoys a high reputation among travelers both at home and abroad.

Every year from June to August, the highest temperature in Turpan reaches more than 45 degrees Celsius and the surface temperature of sand dunes could reach to 70 degrees Celsius, which is the best time for sand therapy, a combination of sunbath, heat therapy and massotherapy.

According to the statistics of Turpan City, more than 300,000 tourists come here for sand therapy every year. With the unique resources for sand therapy, the city makes efforts to build the "Sand Therapy Town" located in Shanghu Village of Ya'er Town in Gaochang District.
