HANOI, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam has recorded more than 65,000 dengue fever cases and 11 fatalities since the beginning of this year, local media Vietnam News reported Thursday, citing data from the Ministry of Health.
The number of cases rose nearly 21 percent year on year, signaling a worrying escalation of the mosquito-borne disease nationwide, according to the report.
In August alone, the country reported 21,640 new cases and six deaths, with the southern region, particularly Ho Chi Minh City, being the most affected.
The ministry stressed the importance of introducing dengue vaccines into the national immunization program, the state-owned media reported. ■
