SYDNEY, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- A search and rescue operation is underway for a missing man after a coal mine collapsed in Australia's northeast on Friday afternoon.
The police force in the state of Queensland said that emergency services received reports of the collapse at the Curragh Coal Mine, more than 600 km northwest of the state capital of Brisbane, at around 3 p.m. local time on Friday.
A police spokesperson quoted by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation said that initial information indicates one man was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and another man remains unaccounted for.
The mine is owned by metallurgical coal producer Coronado Global Resources. ■
