NAIROBI, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Kenya on Wednesday praised Chinese telecom giant Huawei for its contribution to advancing sustainable energy solutions in the country.
James Opiyo Wandayi, cabinet secretary in the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, said Huawei's cutting-edge technologies in digitalization, smart grids, and energy management systems are accelerating the transformation of Kenya's energy infrastructure, making it more efficient, reliable, and sustainable.
"I applaud Huawei for its leadership in driving digital energy transformation, and for its unwavering commitment to Kenya and Africa's course," Wandayi said during the Huawei Kenya Energy Summit 2025.
The day-long forum brought together senior government officials and energy sector executives to exchange ideas on building a resilient and low-carbon energy future.
Wandayi noted that through initiatives such as Huawei Digital Power solutions, Kenya has made significant progress in integrating renewable energy into the national grid, optimizing energy consumption, and supporting the growth of smart cities across Africa.
Samuel Cheng, managing director of Huawei Kenya Enterprise Business, reiterated the company's commitment to rolling out technologies that will integrate renewable energy sources, enhance grid stability, and ensure efficient power distribution across the country.
Cheng added that Huawei's expertise in artificial intelligence-powered grid management and energy storage innovations will help Kenya tap into its abundant solar and wind energy resources. ■
